Ian is the Head of Fleet and Bus Infrastructure at Ireland’s National Transport Authority (NTA), having joined the NTA in May 2018 and having previously occupied the role of Transport Fleet Manager. Amongst his areas of responsibility are the specification and procurement of new battery-electric buses used on state-funded Transport for Ireland (TFI) services, and the provision of charging infrastructure and associated systems to support their operation. Ian is an Incorporated Engineer with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and is a member of Engineers Ireland. He worked for more than 9 years in both heavy rail and light rail in Ireland and the UK prior to joining the NTA, and his experience during that time encompassed the management of electric train maintenance optimisation projects, the development of bids for passenger rail franchises in the UK and overseeing the introduction of new light rail vehicles and upgrades to light rail power supply systems, together with the development of specifications for new metro vehicles, new light rail vehicles and the overhaul of rail vehicles and bogies. His past roles have included Senior Rolling Stock Engineer with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), Safety and Standards Engineer with Eversholt Rail Limited and Rolling Stock Engineer with the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA).
